Our story begins in the 1930s in southeastern France, when craftsman Fernand Petzl was introduced to caving. Back at his workshop after each excursion to the depths, Fernand imagined new tools for exploring darkness and heights. In 1968, he marketed his first products; in 1970, Petzl was born. For decades the Petzl family has built a stable environment that fosters creative solutions and industrial excellence. The new generation is rooted in these principles and ready to make new discoveries.

The Petzl family business is not listed on the stock market. We're proud of our independence; we make our own choices, take responsibility for our decisions, and maintain a long-term, sustainable vision for the future: remaining a stable family business, encouraging innovation to imagine the best solutions, insisting on industrial excellence with the goal of zero defects, and remaining engaged with our communities by providing global best practices.
